Legendary Piano Sonatas

Greg Niemczuk, winner of the 40th F. Chopin National Competition in Warsaw in 2010, returns to Basel with a new, fascinating program as part of a major European concert tour. This program will be performed at venues including the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Casino de Montbenon in Lausanne, the Yehudi Menuhin Forum in Bern, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, and many others.

The program is powerful, ambitious, and very daring: four legendary piano sonatas in a single evening. And what sonatas they are! L. van Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” W. A. Mozart’s “Turkish March” Sonata, and two famous sonatas by F. Chopin (including the B-flat minor sonata, known for the most famous “Funeral March” in the history of music).

These are demanding pieces for the listener, but during Niemczuk’s concert, all difficulties will vanish. As always, he’ll take the microphone and talk (in German) about each masterpiece. The pianist speaks in simple terms, reaching every listener. Thanks to this, the structure and content of each piece will become clear to everyone. This is precisely what sets Niemczuk’s concerts apart—his connection with the audience and his ability to make even complex musical works fully understandable.
